Fortune has released Ultra Swamp, a Windows software synthesizer. You can preview the sounds of Swamp above. Here’s what the developer has to say about Ultra Swamp: Ultra Swamp is reworked version of Swamp/Swamp XT so there are a lot of differences to the prior versions and a hugely increased sonic potential! It’s really for the good, the bad and the weird sounds thus ranging from sweet over dark to really strange and crazy stuff; transforming the wave samples beyond recognition. And it’s not just for pads and atmos but also for snappy percussive sequencer sounds. Although it does look not a very complex synthesizer – don’t let yourself get fooled by this as the sonic results will prove different, as you can check with the sounddemo videos. This is a very versatile synthesizer but is fairly easy to edit. The patch programmers had so much fun with it they did 3 complete additional banks of more incredible patches for the Pro version! Studio Monitors - Cable Test - The DSP Project from Rupert Brown on Vimeo.

Do expensive cables make any difference at all? Or is it all sales BS?
The DSP Project set out to check this out:
We’ve heard allot of different opinions on this subject ranging from “you cant tell the difference Monster cable and a coat hanger” to people who insist on £2000 cable for their speaker connections, claiming it makes a big difference. We went to Urban Chain studios with Mike, John, Charlie and myself to test the following cables:
  • £7.13 Junior special (Home made from crappy bell wire – £7 for the connectors)
  • £20 Van Damme
  • £55 Chord cream
  • £100 Monster cable
All cables are 4 meters long with Neutrik XLR connectors. We tested the cables with both our ears and our eyes and do you think we could find a difference?
They did find a difference – but their results may surprise you…..
